The Time Has Come for Bromance – The Podcast is Upon Us
As I was alluding to some time ago, we’ve been busy with our most recent project. What is it? Bromance.
Along with SuperGnarly Industries, we’ve put together a magical 53 minutes and 29 seconds of Podcast dè la spectacular. The show stars part of the Use Bombs crew that you’ve come to know and love: Arison Cain, Josh Allen, and myself, Arion Robert III. In addition, you’ll be introduced to the intimidating, yet whimsical, Robert “Büb” LaVine.
If you you feel up to the task of allowing the show’s riches to rain down upon you, or you just want to find out more about our NNY based podcast, head over to The Bromance website and download the first episode. It wouldn’t hurt to subscribe either.
You won’t regret following this course of action… hopefully.

Okay, I know I’m a little late on this… (I’ve been busy trying to get a some variation of the Daily Del.icio.us plug in working so I can share my links.)
Gizmodo is sponsoring a month long boycott of the Recording Industry Association of America. Quite frankly, every single person should be taking part in this.
I mean, it should be pretty easy to hop on board. A boycott is practically made for lazy people. All you have to do is not do something. Hell, I’ve been not doing things for years! (That includes buying albums released by RIAA members.) So, I don’t want to hear any whining.
Why?
If you’re unfamiliar with why people hate the RIAA so strongly or why this boycott is a necessary, look no further then the overview below.
- Underpaying and taking advantage of the very artists its member companies represent.
- Fixing prices on their products.
- Going lawsuit-crazy all over the faces of its own consumers for unnecessarily crazy amounts of money.
- Invading personal privacy and compromising or damaging personal property in the name of enforcing copyright.
- Blaming poor financial trends on unfounded digital piracy claims.
- Making governments support RIAA member company’s dying business models with a tax on every blank CD or piece of recordable media their citizens buy.
That’s just the start of it all. Dig around and you’ll find issues dealing with mix tapes, pre-litigation, and all kind of really bad legislation that the RIAA has helped to draft.
How?
Go to RIAA Radar if you want a list of what not to buy. And, If you live in a country like Canada, I guess you should also avoid buying blank CDs.
So, allow yourself to be lazy for once, don’t do anything, don’t go out and buy that CD you wanted; all crippled with Digital Rights Management software. And, if you really feel the need to get up and do something, go donate to a foundation like the EFF.
Whatever you do, do it knowing that we as consumers have a responsibility to correct the current situation.

Why Red?
It’s assertive, ambitious, dramatic, and passionate. (Or so I’ve been told)
Anyway - aside from some tweaks to the underlying code and fixes for a few browsers, I’m deeming this site redesign as complete. I pondered waiting until the next CSS Reboot event to update the site, but decided against it. I wanted the redesign up as soon as possible.
Personally, I’m extremely pleased with how the design turned out, far more than I was with the last version.
Too much content occupied too little space in the old design. Upon reexamining all that material, it really became clear how unnecessary it was. So, we’ve removed a lot of that clutter, making the layout feel much more elegant. This means that eyeballs no longer scream in frustration as all sorts of stuff competes for their unwavering attention.
The whole site also feels much more harmonious. There always seemed to be some sort of infighting between the elements of the old design. I could never put my finger on what the cause of that battle was, but it bugged me to no end.
Along with redesigning the look of the site, we’ve also finally enabled a lot of functionality that was missing. Some of the biggest changes include…
- The Gallery link no longer leads to the Use-Bombs Flickr profile. Instead we use the FAlbum plug-in by Elijah Cornell to integrate the gallery directly into the site.
- The Video button is now more than a link to Google Video. The launch of our video section makes finding our film bits and pieces much easier.
- We’ve launched a music section. With the help of the Flash Media Player, a person can play music directly from our site or download a copy. Although it only has material from Josh right now, I expect this section to grow quite a bit in the near future.
- Link bubbles! I can’t get enough of the little speech bubbles that appear when you hover over the “Recommended” links. They illustrate XFN relationships, show a thumbnail of the linked site, and give a description.
- Although the site will still stretch to fill the screen of longer windows, it will now only do so up to a maximum width.
- We’ve carried a set of text based ads on this site for a good while. (They’re a little more prominent since the redesign.) We’ve also recommended Firefox or Opera as long as I can remember. As a note of disclosure, I finally figured it was time we sign up for a Google AdSense “Get Firefox” link. Don’t worry, you’ll only see it if you’re using Internet Explorer.
Some have asked me about the lower right hand portion of the site, which we had set aside for del.icio.us links in the past. I still plan to gather those links together and post them every few days or every week. However, instead of keeping them in their own list I will be posting them as a standard post.
Enjoy the update and let me know about any issues you have (with operating system and browser versions please)!
Note: I know the video page looks goofy on Internet Explorer 6. Live with it or, like I said, go get a browser with far fewer bugs! I’ll get to it when and if I have the energy left in me to try and debug another page for that horrid software. Users of Internet Explorer 6 and below: You’re lucky I’m sending a style to you at all!
<rant>I want to make it perfectly clear that Internet Explorer is generally a bad browser; even version 7. This statement is not just personal opinion, but based on technical facts. I have always affirmed this and will continue to until they fix some very paramount rendering issues. Migrating, at least for the time being, is most likely your own good!</rant>

New From Use-Bombs LabsQuite the Non-Dihydroxyphenylalanine
Just when I thought all the computer issues were done and over with, they come back and strike 3 times as hard. This time, my personal tower down because of a power supply failure. But, there was a bonus. I’ve been fighting with the content management systems on the site, just to make them display information correctly. At one point, during a move to a new server, we almost lost a lot of data.
Well I continue to try and clear that stuff up, you can take a gander at these new photos. They’re just a small glimpse at what will be coming to Northern NY cable television this November.
